June Member Of The Month

Dr. Sarah Penkin is member of the month for June. It has been an amazing  transformation that she has gone through in the last 8 months. Going from being hesitant about every lift to pushing herself to her limits weekly (either physical or mental). We are truly proud to call Sarah member of Month!

Q: How long have you been a member and how long have you been doing CrossFit?
A: I started doing CrossFit in November 2017 at Boomtown!

Q: What is your favorite thing about the gym?
A: The community by far! I received such a warm welcome as a new member and that made coming to class extremely easy! I also love the coaches. As a healthcare provider I have seen a number of CrossFit injuries that are due to poor form, poor mobility and poor stability. The way Boomtown approaches movement mechanics in each class is absolutely awesome and I was very impressed when going through my foundations class.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you have overcome since joining the gym?
A: I think I have actually gotten to the point where I push myself while at the gym. It’s exciting to be able to keep track of time, weight and reps week to week and even between assessments. Honestly, a year ago you probably wouldn’t ever hear me say that I enjoyed working out, but now I really love going to the gym and getting my ass handed to me weekly!

Q: What is your favorite moment at the gym so far?
A: Hitting a PR is a pretty incredible feeling. Before my foundations class I had never put a weighted bar above my head, but it didn’t take long to want to work hard to get my snatch to something I was proud of!

Q: What’s your favorite “cheat” food?
A: Pizza and Red Wine.

Q: What’s your Favorite activity outside the gym?
A: I love to travel, hike and go to any concert!

Q: What would you say to someone who is thinking about starting?A: Absolutely give it a shot. A lot of people say that CrossFit terrifies them and obviously it can be intimidating, just as anything else, but if you find a gym with an amazing community of members and coaches you will absolutely be in good hands.

Q: What drives you?
A: My patients! I educate people daily on how to move and be healthy. The more I can follow my own advice, the more I can help my patients grow and achieve their goals.

Q: Which coach do you like to beat in workouts?
A: I don’t think I’ve beaten anyone in an RX workout yet, but it’s always exciting to try to keep your pace with a coach!

Q: What is you biggest fitness goal right now?
A: I’m actually quite excited to see where I can get my deadlift, squat, snatch and clean and jerk to be by the end of the year.
